Hello John Wesley members and friends,
It has been a while since I’ve communicated my thoughts about a particular scripture to you, thus let me take this opportunity to do so. The scripture that is on my mind tonight is I Corinthians 6:20 KJV. I am specifying the KJV because it, unlike many other translations, admonishes believers to honor God in your body and in your spirit. This is extremely important because people have a terrible habit of thinking they can separate what is done in the body from what is done in the spirit. Truth is, what you do in the body impacts your spirit, and the health and strength of your spirit impacts your body. Acts done in the body will either grieve your spirit or make it rejoice; conversely, how your spirit develops can weaken or strengthen your body. Yes, this is true sexually, but sadly, it is not the only area of your life that effects your spirit as too many Christians seem to believe. God needs you to understand that what you do in the body impacts your spirit every day, and it impacts your spirit in your everyday life – at home, at work, at school, and even while running errands. Please keep in mind that what you do in the body, which includes your heart and mind, those organ that house your capacity for love and judgement, has both an immediate and long term effect on your spirit. I urge you to commit yourself to developing your spirit to it’s fullest.
Blessings,
Pastor Woods-Barrant
